About Sweet Home
Sweet Home sits in a valley outside Eston, right on the edge of its own dam, with landscaped gardens, lawns and water features running down to the water and sugarcane fields filling the view beyond. It is roughly 35 minutes from Pietermaritzburg and 45 from Durban, which puts it within easy reach of both without either being in the photographs.
The reception is a high, pitched-roof hall with exposed steel trusses and a polished concrete floor, glazed down one side so the dam stays in view through dinner. Couples dress the ceiling with draping and pendant lighting, and the hard floor and open volume make it a genuinely good room to fill with sound.
That same volume is the thing to plan for. A tall trussed roof over concrete is reflective, so the system has to be aimed rather than simply turned up — otherwise speeches bounce and the back of the room hears the echo before the word.
