About Netherwood Farm

I have played at many events at Netherwood Farm over the years, and it is one of the venues I am at most often.

Netherwood is a working farm on the R103 at Nottingham Road. Alongside the wedding side there is the Blueberry Café, a brewery and the Farmyard Kids, so the estate has a life of its own beyond weekends.

The chapel seats between 130 and 180 indoors, with the ceremony set on the hilltop looking out over the Midlands. The reception venue takes up to 240 — a contemporary, glass-fronted room that is one of the better-proportioned spaces in the area for a big guest list.

Lidgett’s Grant Lodge, a self-catering farmhouse sleeping 20, keeps the closest family on the property. That is usually the group still dancing at the end, and it changes how the last hour of the night runs.

The hilltop ceremony

Wind is the real variable up there, not volume. Wireless microphones get positioned for it, so the vows carry to the back row on a gusty Midlands afternoon.

Glass and hard surfaces

A glass-fronted room with a checkerboard floor is reflective. The system gets aimed rather than just turned up, which keeps the speeches intelligible and the dancefloor punchy.

Lighting the greenery

The hanging greenery and disco balls are half the look already. My uplighting picks them out instead of washing them flat, and the beams have something to catch.
