Hi, I am Jarryd Sunkel, the owner and proud human behind my DJ brand, KZN Wedding DJ.
KZN Wedding DJ was born and established in 2003. Skip a few years ahead and I found myself playing at some of the best wedding venues in Durban and the KZN Midlands. Over 23 years I have built one of the leading wedding DJ brands across KwaZulu-Natal — and I am so humbled! I spend my weekends (and some weekdays) at venues including Brahman Hills, The Groves, Haycroft Farm, Providence, Fordoun, The Gallery and Netherwood Farm.
Let’s talk weddings! Weddings are, at heart, a celebration, and they need the skills of a professional wedding DJ. The recipe is simple: professional sound gear, reading the room (the most important part) and reacting to it. The right song, at the right time, at the right volume! That experience comes from playing over 1000 wedding celebrations over the past two decades.
I am based in Durban and travel for weddings right across South Africa, including Cape Town and Johannesburg.

01 — Ceremony
Professional PA systems for wedding ceremonies anywhere in KZN. No electricity? No problem — battery-operated systems cater for forest and beach ceremonies. Choose your own processional, recessional and hymns, or leave the selection to me.

02 — Canapés
Also known as cocktail hour. A compact PA system and an easy-listening playlist hold the room while you and your photographer disappear for couple shots. The SPIN360 videobooth is a popular addition to this hour.

03 — Reception
A dedicated reception PA system, curated easy-listening through dinner that lifts as the night goes on, and a professional wireless microphone for the speeches. Dancefloor lighting, moving heads and haze are included.

Our lighting rig is built to lift the room, not just light it. DMX-controlled intelligent LED moving heads and parcans energise the dancefloor, while an LED bar washes the venue in a colour chosen to match your palette.
Effect lighting layered with haze adds the drama that makes photographs worth keeping. And for the first dance, non-flammable cold spark fountains turn "the lift" or "the dip" into the shot everyone remembers — safely, indoors, with no pyrotechnic licence required.

Yes. I am based in Durban and in the Midlands most weekends — Nottingham Road, Balgowan, Curry’s Post, Howick and Lions River are regular ground. I also play Ballito and the North Coast, the South Coast, the Drakensberg and further afield across South Africa. Travel is quoted per booking, and venues more than 100km from Durban include accommodation for the DJ and assistant.
Yes, and most couples book both together. One supplier means nothing is lost in the handover between the DJ and the MC: the speeches start when they should, dinner lands hot and the dancefloor opens at the right moment. The Wedding MC page covers how the evening is run.
Twelve to eighteen months ahead is ideal. Bookings are open for 2026 through 2028, and peak-season Saturdays are the first to go, so send your date as soon as you have it — even if the rest of the planning is nowhere near settled.
Most couples pay between R17,000 and R25,000 for a professional wedding DJ in KZN. Where you land depends on the ceremony, canapé and reception setup, the lighting, the travel and any photobooth, so send your date, venue and rough guest count and you will get a written quote for exactly what your day needs, with nothing padded in.
Yes. Backup equipment travels to every wedding and stays on site for the whole event, so a failure on the night is an inconvenience rather than a silence.

KZN Wedding DJ is registered with both SAMRO and SAMPRA, and the licences are available on request. It is worth asking any supplier the same question — playing recorded music at an event is a public performance, and it needs to be licensed.
